Natural ways to calm your dog

Many dogs become upset, fearful and anxious for seemingly no reason. Being able to calm a dog is an important step towards getting his or her behavior under control so that you can both be happier.
When dogs are fearful and anxious often, it means that they are under stress for reasons that may be unknown to their owners. Some dogs inherit separation anxiety, which stems from being left alone for as little as a few minutes to several hours. Some dogs may even have difficulties sleeping at night as a result of anxiety, even when you are right there. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to ease your pet’s mind and calm his or her nerves.

Wheat

Feed your pet any foods that consists of wheat to help calm your dog. Studies have shown that products that contain wheat can have a direct affect on certain areas of your dog’s brain and which helps your friend to feel more calm and relaxed.

Warm milk

One of the easiest ways to calm your dog involves serving him or her warm milk. This is a substance that humans have consumed for years as it has a soothing, calming effect. You can add a bit of honey to give the milk a different, sweeter taste. You may also want to give your dog a dog biscuit to alleviate your pet’s fear and anxiety.

Kava herbs

A great way to naturally calm your dog down is by giving a herb known as kava. This natural substance can be found at most health food stores. Kava comes in liquid form and can be fed dog by adding a few drops in your dog’s water dish. Kava is easily digestible and contains a natural element responsible for a calming, soothing effect. You can also purchase kava as a dry herb that can be added directly to your pet’s food. Be sure to administer the appropriate amount by following the instructions on the bottle or packaging.

Dog treats

An alternative to calm a dog is to give treats several times a each day in addition to the dogs regular food. A healthy, natural snack for your dog to nibble on is essential in keeping him or her calm as treats always give dogs a soothing feeling and boosts their confidence levels.

Bach’s Rescue Remedy

Another way how to calm your dog is by using Bach’s Rescue Remedy, a substance similar to kava. It is available in most health food stores and can be administered to your dog’s food or water in specific amounts as stated in the instructions. We recommend to purchase the liquid variant that does not contain any alcohol and add it to your pet’s water.
